MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The celebrations of US Independence Day at UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath station hosting US Air Force were cancelled due to security concerns, RAF said in a statement Thursday.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the 2015 4th of July Celebration, set to be held at RAF Feltwell, is cancelled. The decision was made due to the most current, local threat assessments," RAF said in a statement published on its Facebook page.
The RAF stressed that all the events, including the preview party on July 3 are cancelled.
The announcement comes after last week’s attack on a popular Tunisian resort that left nearly 40 people dead. The number of Britons confirmed to have been killed in the shooting stands at 30.
ISIL extremist group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
