As the officer was digging through her backpack to get her ID for the responding police, another cop spotted a spoon and syringe inside her bag. The subsequent search found Staniland to be in possession of four and a half clonazepam pills, also known as klonopin, and no proof of a prescription.
The NYPD officer is also accused of burglarizing her boyfriend’s mother’s home, stealing jewelry and selling them at a pawn shop two days before the Thanksgiving holiday last year, and again on December 1.
Staniland was charged with burglary, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property relating to those incidents. She was suspended for 30 days without pay following the charges.
Staniland was also arrested on charges of possession of a hypodermic instrument and criminal possession of a controlled substance while she was on duty on May 13 of this year.
She was suspended for a second time after that arrest, but has remained on the force.
It is unclear whether these latest charges will finally be enough to have her removed from the department.
