WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US Army sergeant admitted to conspiracy to commit bribery by contracting for supplies while serving in Afghanistan, the Department of Justice said in a press release.
“Ramiro Pena Jr., 43, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, pleaded guilty before US District Judge Thomas B. Russell of the Western District of Kentucky to a one count… charging him with conspiracy to commit bribery,” the release, issued on Thursday, said.
Pena and his supervisor, Army Master Sergeant Jimmy Dennis, engaged in contracting with local vendors to buy supplies needed to support humanitarian relief in Afghanistan, according to the release.
Both army men have admitted to processing 217 contracts worth around $30,760,255.
Pena also admitted to receiving a Rolex watch and $100,000 in bribe payments from vendors for his actions.
