Two women have blown themselves up in simultaneous attacks in a village in Borno State in north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram militants have claimed swathes of territory; there are conflicting reports of the number of victims.

Two female suicide bombers carried out attacks in the village of Malari, close to the Borno State capital of Maiduguri on Friday. According to reports, at least ten people died in the bombings, and some sources claim there were 13 victims.

The suicide bombs were detonated at a crowded market and at a military checkpoint; on Thursday another suicide bombing, carried out at a military checkpoint near Maiduguri, claimed the lives of four people.

Bomb and gun attacks have intensified in recent weeks in Borno State, which has been in a state of emergency since May 2013. On Wednesday suspected Boko Haram militants massacred scores of people in attacks on three villages in the state.
