Police have detained a tanker at the seaport of the Polish city of Gdansk after they discovered seven tons of benzyl-methyl ketone on board the vessel; the substance is used as a precursor, or raw material, for producing amphetamines, media reports said.
"The incident shows that the rate of production of amphetamines in Europe… shows no signs of abating," Russia's Federal Drug Control Service said regarding the detention of the tanker.
According to the watchdog, the next few years will see an increase in the production and supply of amphetamine-type drugs, which may be delivered to Russia.
