TEL AVIV (Sputnik) – Unknown perpetrators shot at least one missile at southern Israel from Egypt, an Israeli army spokeswoman told RIA Novosti Friday.
"The missile, launched from Sinai, fell on Israeli territory. The troops are currently searching through the area looking for pieces of the missile and traces of other missiles," the spokeswoman said.
On Wednesday, Wilayat Sinai extremists attacked Egyptian army checkpoints not far from the Gaza Strip, killing and injuring dozens of soldiers.
The Wilayat Sinai group is associated with the Islamic State, which operates in Syria and Iraq.
The Sinai peninsula has been a turbulent area since the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
