MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Islamic State extremist group released a video on Saturday showing what appears to be the execution of 25 Syrian army servicemen in the amphitheater of the Syrian ancient city of Palmyra.
The killed were taken captive in the western Syrian city of Homs, according to the militants. The executioners seem to be teenagers.
In May 2015, the IS took over Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The amphitheater was previously used to execute 20 men.
The IS group has seized vast territories in Syria and Iraq over the past years. The militants are notorious for many human rights atrocities, including numerous executions of religious minorities, government troops of Syria and Iraq and foreign hostages, including journalists.
