"The [presidential] election was fabricated. There was definitely not 50 percent [of votes in support of Poroshenko]. There was a certain "rigged game". Americans put their stake on him and the election was "made." This election was absolutely illegitimate. There was no democracy there," Azarov said.
The former Ukrainian prime minister said that Poroshenko, however, failed to take advantage of his position as he "lost touch with reality."
He said the former prime minister has missed the opportunity to stop the war and stop destroying the region on which the entire economy of the country is based.
Azarov stressed that Ukraine needs to break the current regime and return to common sense. First, the war must be stopped and peace must be established, the ex-prime minister said.
"Second — to sit down and negotiate. Third — to restore economic relations with Russia and to stop practicing blackmail," he said.
