The result of the Greek plebiscite means that international creditors will be forced to ease the country's massive debt, Tsipras said in a televised address to nation.
"This time, the debt will be on the negotiating table," adding that an International Monetary Fund report seen this week "confirms Greek views that restructuring the debt is necessary".
"With the difficult circumstances prevailing today you made a very brave choice," he added, pointing out that the mandate that Greeks gave him, was not aimed to clash with Europe but “to strengthen [Greece] negotiating position to seek a viable solution."
