BERLIN (Sputnik) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande are unanimous in considering that the outcomes of the Greek referendum should be respected, a spokesperson for the Germany’s government told RIA Novosti.
"Both leaders were unanimous in their opinion that the will of the Greek citizens should be treated with respect," the spokesperson said, commenting on a telephone conversation between the German and French leaders that took place on Sunday evening.
According to the preliminary results of the voting, some 61 percent of voters in Greece said "no" to the bailout proposals tabled by the country's international creditors, while about 39 percent supported the deal.
The country currently owes about $270 billion to its main international creditors, comprising the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Central Bank and several Eurozone nations.
