MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was confirmed in the Philippines, the country’s Department of Health (DOH) announced on Monday.
The announcement comes after a 36-year-old foreign national, who arrived in the Philippines capital, Manila from Dubai on June 19, has been tested positive for the virus.
Another person who had a contact with the infected foreign citizens was also put in isolation unit, according to the DOH.
The first case discovered in the Philippines was of a 32-year-old Filipina nurse, who worked in Saudi Arabia. She underwent a diagnostic test in February that showed a positive result. The woman no longer has fever and is in stable condition.
MERS is a viral respiratory disease caused by the MERS-coronavirus. The infection was first reported in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and subsequently spread to other countries.
