BEIJING (Sputnik) — The BRICS group should be more open to the opinions of other emerging economies in order to strengthen relations with such countries and improve the organization's role in international and regional issues, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Gopin said Monday.
BRICS is an informal interstate association of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The group has been holding annual summits since 2009.
"We should be more open to the opinions of other developing countries in order to strengthen our relationship with them and other organizations," China’s deputy foreign minister said at a press briefing, dedicated to the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping in the summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS group in the Russian city of Ufa.
International participants will gather on July 8-10 for the two international summits that will be run in parallel in the same Russian city as this year Russia is chairing both organizations.
The deputy foreign minister expressed hope that the participants will be able to agree on a number of issues, including climate change, global finance and preserving peace in the world.
