SYRIZA party member Giorgos Chondros stated that the resignation of Greek Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis took place under the pressure of European partners.
“What will they say now? Until yesterday, they were saying that the problem is Varoufakis. Perhaps now we can finally start substantive discussion. Because all previous discussions were meaningless. Now, I'm curious what our partners will say," Chondros stated.
With regard to Sunday’s referendum, Chondros also stated that people should influence the policy to secure the development of democracy in Europe.
“Why do you think that people's opinions should not influence policy? Where do we find ourselves, if this is so? If people make a decision for themselves and it does not influence the policy, it destroys democracy,” Chondros said.
The final results of Sunday's referendum showed that 61.3 percent of voters rejected the bailout proposals tabled by Greece's international lenders, while 38.6 percent voted in favor of the deal.
