BERLIN (Sputnik) — On Sunday, over 61 percent of Greek voters rejected proposals from Greece’s foreign creditors on financial aid in exchange for economic austerity measures in a referendum.
"If Greece is willing to stay in the eurozone, the Greek government should immediately make a practical proposal that will expand the previous one and could be accepted by other 18 countries of the eurozone," Gabriel, who also serves as German's vice chancellor, told reporters.
An emergency Eurogroup summit on the situation with Greece is expected to take place on Tuesday.
Currently, Greece owes some $270 billion to its main international creditors, while the country's total debt amounts to $350 billion, which has been declared unsustainable by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
