WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Saturday, seven-year-old Amari Brown and a 26-year-old woman were shot were shot by Chicago police before midnight. The woman was shot in the chest and her condition stabilized at Stroger Hospital, but Brown’s wound was fatal.
Chapman claimed the continued murders of African Americans in Chicago were because city police were never held responsible for their crimes.
“We are trying to get legislation to get an ordinance that will create an all-elected police accountability board. There can be no police on there, and it [must be] all civilian-elected.”
He alleged that Chicago police had a terrible reputation for dealing with drug or gang-related problems, referring to the continued mistakes made by officers, racist attitudes, as well as use of excessive force in the line of duty.
Chapman explained that a police accountability board would hold corrupt Chicago police officers accountable for their actions.
The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression is an advocacy group seeking civilian control of the city police, freeing political and innocent prisoners and ending the alleged practice of torture of suspects there, according to the organization’s website.
