Riga (Sputnik) —A relevant notification was sent to the chief state notary of the Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia.
The agency submitted all the required registration documents, in accordance with Latvian law, in April 2015. The register has already postponed the date for a decision on this matter twice.
The Latvian side did not specify the reasons for the delay. The register’s website states that the standard time for processing applications is from one to five days.
Speaking on the subject, Sputnik’s Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said:
“Sputnik broadcasts in more than 30 languages all over the world with the express purpose of voicing different opinions about the situation in a particular country and in the world. Specifically, we are telling the untold, giving a platform to opinions that other media often prefer not to discuss. We hope that the Enterprise Register of the Latvian Republic will make its decision in strict conformity with international legal standards and the fundamental principles of freedom of speech and of the press.”
