Foreign NGOs May Be Behind Protests in Armenia – Russian Senior Lawmaker
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Federation Council will send a list of foreign NGOs, that can be included in the list of undesirable organizations, to the Foreign Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office on Wednesday, Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said Tuesday.

"During tomorrow's meeting we will adopt an appeal to the Foreign Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office to analyze the activities of these organizations in terms of Russian legislation and if needed, will include them in the list of undesirable organizations", Matvienko said.

In July 2012, the Russian parliament adopted a law requiring NGOs that are engaged in political activities and receive funding from abroad to register as "foreign agents" and to label all their publications as such. The law became effective in November 2012.

Commenting on the law, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was needed to limit direct and indirect foreign interference and lobbying in the country.
