MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Both the Iceberg and the Rassvet are designed for combating surface ships in close-range maritime zones.

They carry such armaments as the Osa air defense missile system and Malakhit anti-ship missiles.

“Tracking of the imaginary ship, coercion to change the course of the ship, being within dangerous proximity to the state sea border and rocket attacks on an imaginary group of surface ships will be practiced during the military exercises,” Serga said.

The Russian Defense Ministry has significantly increased the number of snap military exercises it conducts within its borders in an effort to enhance its forces' level of military training.

In June, the Northern Fleet completed training exercises involving ship-based helicopters, mine sweeping ships and other battleships.
