MOSCOW (Sputnik) — An US airstrike killed the Islamic State (ISIL) militant group’s leader in Afghanistan, Hafiz Saeed, the Afghanistan intelligence agency, National Directorate of Security (NDS), said on Saturday.
“Based on NDS intelligence, HAFEZ SAYEED, The leader of Daesh [IS] in so called Khurassan state was killed in an air strike in Achin, NGR [Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan],” NDS wrote in its Twitter.

Afghanistan intelligence has reportedly provided the United States with data for carrying out the Friday drone air strike that killed Saeed.
The ISIL militant group, in control of large territories in Syria and Iraq, spread its influence to other countries of the Middle East and Africa, where ISIL-affiliated groups are active.
The United States carries out drone strikes in Afghanistan on a regular basis.
