KIEV (Sputnik) — On Saturday, the Ukrainian Right Sector far-right movement began protests in several Ukrainian cities, including Kiev and Lviv, following a police shootout involving its members in the Ukrainian southwestern city of Mukachevo.
"Eleven people were wounded. Two more from the Right Sector were injured. Thus, a total of 13 people sustained injuries. One civilian and two from the Right Sector were killed," Andriy Shevchenko told RIA Novosti.
Following the Mukachevo shootout, the country’s prosecutor general launched a probe into the case it considered a terrorist attack.
The Right Sector is a group of radical nationalist organizations that played a major role in the violent clashes that led to the February 2014 coup in Ukraine.
In November 2014, the Russian Supreme Court recognized the Right Sector as an extremist organization and it was subsequently banned in Russia. A criminal case has been opened against the group in Moscow for inciting terrorism.
