The incident began with a heated exchange between 55-year-old Karen Bailey and a young couple on the train, one of whom was an Asian girl, after they reportedly refused to give up their seats. Bailey then begins targeting the girl, hurling racial slurs as she mocked her features and accent.
She doesn't appear to be the least bit ashamed when someone tells her she's being filmed and, in fact, takes out her own camera to film the exchange herself as she continues to degrade the couple with a myriad of derogatory comments.
But after the video went viral, Bailey seemed to have had a change of heart, and apologized for her behavior, saying that she had a "brain snap," and that "no one deserves to be spoken to like that."
It was also later revealed that Bailey had originally lied about her name, telling the media that she was called Sue Wilkins.
Bailey was arrested by Central Coast police after the incident and charged with offensive conduct. She later pled guilty, but escaped a fine in court after she was handed 12-month good behavior bond by the judge.
