WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Washington is dedicated to cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council members on countering Iran’s allegedly destabilizing actions in the region and enhancing their defense systems, the White House stated in a press release following the phone conversation between US President Barack Obama and Crown Prince Mohammed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
“President [Obama] underscored that the United States is as committed as ever to working with our Gulf partners to counter Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region, support our partners in building their defense capabilities, and pursue together efforts to resolve the region's crises,” the release read on Tuesday.
According to the White House, during the phone conversation Obama briefed Al Nahyan on the details of the Iran nuclear deal.
On Tuesday, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries — China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany — announced a final comprehensive agreement on Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions' relief.
According to the final text of the nuclear agreement, Iran will under no circumstances seek to develop or acquire a nuclear weapon. The text also claims the final deal will positively contribute to security in the Middle Eastern.
Members of the Gulf Cooperation Council have repeatedly raised concerns over the implications of Iran nuclear agreement on regional security.
