China is supporting an investigation into the crash of Malaysian Airlines Flight (MH17) in accordance with resolution 2166 adopted by the UN Security Council, the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
In July 2014, The UN Security Council adopted resolution 2166, which contains the requirement to halt all military activities around the crash site, provide unrestricted access to the area as well as guarantee the integrity and safety of all members of the investigative team.
"The crash of the Malaysian Airlines passenger plane MH17 is a real tragedy. The Chinese side supports the idea of an independent, fair and objective investigation in accordance with resolution 2166 of the UN Security Council to bring the perpetrators to justice," the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated.
Earlier, the countries most affected by the tragedy — Malaysia, Ukraine, Australia, the Netherlands and Belgium – made a proposal to create an international tribunal, which would ensure a fair trial for the perpetrators.
Malaysia recently submitted a draft resolution to establish the international tribunal. Russia does not support this initiative, as the investigation of the incident has not been yet completed and there have been no precedents for the creation of such institutions.
