MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Establishing international tribunals is not necessary to investigate crimes, and creating one on last year's crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine would be a legal discrepancy, Vitaly Churkin said.
"The investigation is still ongoing, and we continue to advocate for international cooperation, which we, incidentally, do not see. We see that our experts are barred from these cases, and only occasionally are they given some information about how the investigation is going," Churkin said.
Moscow is confident that the resolution would not be passed, the diplomat added. "This will only lead to some friction, which is absolutely unuseful."
"We oppose this for one simple reason. The authors themselves, which include not only Malaysia, but also the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Ukraine, they acknowledge themselves that this is a criminal offense. And at the same time, they propose a resolution calling the incident a threat to international peace and security… This is a legal inconsistency," Churkin told Rossiya-24 television.
