KIEV (Sputnik) – Kiev has agreed to meetings with its creditors next week to come to a final solution to its outstanding foreign debt, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
“Additional meetings between the two parties are planned for next week with the single goal of finalizing the conditions of Ukraine’s debt situation as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
The conflict between Kiev forces and independence supporters in the eastern part of the country erupted in April 2014 and has left Ukraine on the brink of default. The country's currency, the hryvnia, has significantly dropped in value since that time.
Ukraine’s overall debt stands at $70 billion, of which some $40 billion is owed to international money lenders.
