Washington made the biggest contribution to the P5+1 nuclear negotiations with Tehran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, a landmark deal between Iran and the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and China, aimed at guaranteeing the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program was reached.

"I will note that, without exaggeration, the main, decisive, indisputable contribution to the achievement of an agreement was made by negotiators from the United States. This really is an indisputable fact. Without the United States' focus on achieving a result, on finding mutually acceptable solutions and compromises, this deal could not have happened," Lavrov told reporters.

Earlier, US President Barack Obama thanked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for the Russian contribution to finalizing of the agreement.
