James Holmes was convicted of killing 12 and injuring 70 others when he opened fire during a crowded midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, 2012.
In addition to the shooting, Holmes had also rigged his apartment to explode. The devices were defused by a police bomb squad.
A jury found him guilty on all 24 counts of murder.
Holmes, 27, was on trial facing a total of 165 counts, but had pleaded insanity. Two court-ordered psychiatric evaluations, however, concluded that Holmes was sane.
Now that he has been found guilty, Holmes' case will move into the death penalty sentencing phase. If he is spared capital punishment, he will serve life imprisonment without possibility of parole.
