DONETSK (Sputnik) – Commemorative events will be held on Friday in southeastern Ukraine, at the site of the MH17 plane crash.
"On July 17, the anniversary of the Malaysian [Airlines] Boeing crash, a memorial service for the victims of this terrible disaster will be held; we also plan to place a memorial stone where the plane’s largest fragment was lying," a representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) told RIA Novosti.
A social event will also be held on Friday, in memory of those who died in the MH17 plane crash.
Flight MH17 crashed in Ukraine's eastern region of Donetsk in July 2014 while en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 people on board the Boeing 777 plane died.
Kiev authorities and independence fighters in Ukraine’s southeast have repeatedly accused each other of shooting down the plane.
In June, Russian arms manufacturer Almaz-Antey unveiled the results of its inquiry into the crash, showing that flight MH17 was downed by a guided missile launched by a Buk-M1 system. The particular missile has not been produced in Russia since 1999, but remains in service in the Ukrainian army, according to Almaz-Antey.
The Malaysian delegation has come up with a draft UN Security Council resolution on establishing an international tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
DPR parliamentary speaker Andrei Purgin has told RIA Novosti that he suspects that the draft resolution on the creation of the tribunal is some kind of a political game.
On Tuesday, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service said that the Netherlands had sent a new investigative mission to southeastern Ukraine to collect more evidence on the MH17 crash.
