MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A man suspected of fatally shooting four people in the northeasternmost US state of Maine was arrested Friday in a town close to the Canadian border, State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said.
Anthony Lord, 35, is believed to have gone on a shooting spree overnight in the towns of Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge.
State police seized him Friday afternoon at a house in Houlton, just three miles away from the Canadian province of New Brunswick, the local WCSH6 TV channel said. A woman Lord was with at the time of the arrest was also held and is reported to be safe.
The channel said that, according to the Maine Sex Offender Registry, the 35-year-old is a "lifetime registrant for a charge of unlawful sexual contact."
Following the shooting, police set up road blocks in the Lee area, stopping every car on Route 6, which goes to Canada.
