MOSCOW (Sputnik) – South African President Jacob Zuma has been hospitalized to undergo a scheduled procedure to remove gallstones, the presidency’s website announced in a statement.
"President Jacob Zuma has been admitted to hospital this evening to undergo a scheduled procedure to remove gall stones," the statement, posted on Saturday, read.
It went on to say medical professionals discovered gallstones two months ago, but have been unable to operate due to Zuma’s schedule.
"The President is expected to be discharged on Sunday," the presidency statement added.
Zuma was previously hospitalized in June 2014, two weeks after winning re-election, for what his spokesperson described a bout of exhaustion. He was released two days later.
