MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Several people are feared trapped inside a collapsed building that killed four and injured 10 in the Indian capital of New Delhi, local media reported, citing authorities.
The four-story building in the West Delhi district is believed to have caved in from excavation at a nearby construction site late Saturday, according to initial reports cited by NDTV.
"The building in Vishnu Garden (in Khayala) collapsed and we are conducting a rescue operation. Many are feared to be trapped in the debris,” the outlet quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police Pushpendra Kumar as saying.
Fire department, local police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units are on the ground conducting rescue efforts.
The multi-team effort is aided by life detection machines fielded by the Quick Reaction Team of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the news organization adds.
Dipendra Pathak, West Delhi’s joint commissioner of police, told the Press Trust of India earlier at least 10 people are feared trapped under the debris.
