Over 1,500 people have been evacuated in eastern Indonesia following the eruption of Mount Gamalama, together with two other volcanoes.
The eruption stranded thousands of passengers traveling to celebrate the Muslim Eid festival. The travelers were unable to return home from Indonesia as several of the country's airports were closed due to the eruption of two volcanoes, CNN reported Friday.
Fresh eruptions from Mount Raung shut four small airports on Java island amid concerns over airspace safety, the broadcaster reported.
Earlier, national airline Garuda Indonesia announced that it had suspended flights to and from the airports of Malang, Banyuwangi and Jember in East Java.
Air traffic in Indonesia is regularly disrupted due to volcano eruptions, as the country counts some 130 of them on its territory.
