LUGANSK (Sputnik) — The self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic completes Sunday withdrawal of weapons with a calibre of less than 100mm from the line of contact in eastern Ukraine except for the Shchastya region, a LPR’s militias spokesman said Sunday.
On Saturday, both Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics (LPR and DPR) stated they decided to unilaterally withdraw weapons to a distance of at least 1.8 miles from the line of contact with government troops.
"All weapons with a calibre less of less than 100mm have been withdrawn, except for the area in the Shchastya region, where the atmosphere remains tense," the spokesman told the Lugansk Information Center news portal.
On Saturday, LPR and DPR sent the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine a request to observe the withdrawal of weapons.
Under the February ceasefire deal reached in Minsk, both Kiev authorities and Donbass independence militias were to remove heavy weapons with a calibre of over 100mm, creating an 18-mile buffer zone.
