New York City airport employees will vote Monday to set a time for a labor strike.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – New York City airport employees will vote Monday to set a time for a labor strike demanding higher wages and benefits, local media reported, citing the labor union.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is expected to announce the strike date on Tuesday following the vote, NBC New York reported Sunday.

SEIU – representing security guards, baggage handlers and wheelchair attendants subcontracted to major airline companies – was cited as saying its workers’ subcontractor, Aviation Safeguards, issued unlawful threats following their previous pickets.

Workers, who do subcontracted work for Delta, British Airways and Untied at John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, demand a $15-an-hour wage.

The SEIU website says it represents 2 million public and private sector workers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
