Berlin to Ask US to Clarify New WikiLeaks Revelations on NSA Spying
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — According to documents released by WikiLeaks on Monday, NSA spying on the German Foreign Ministry extends back to before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against the United States, after which Washington stepped up security measures.

The documents also suggest that the NSA helped the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to secretly abduct and torture suspects in Western Europe with the tacit consent of German officials, including Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“There will be no political scandal [following the WikiLeaks revelations]. The German government is a complete vassal,” Dr. Alexander Neu said.

The German lawmaker added that the scale of Germany’s cooperation with US intelligence networks constitutes a surrender of German sovereignty.

“The German government says close cooperation with the US was unavoidable to make Germany safe. For this reason we had to accept the US behavior. This is a surrender of German sovereignty,” Neu said.

The Monday publications follow the April 2015 revelations of Germany’s intelligence service BND spying on residents in the European Union, including in Germany, at the behest of the NSA.
