MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Picketing will start at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday (03:00 GMT) and at LaGuardia at 6:00 a.m. Thursday (11:00 GMT), the union said Tuesday.

Airports’ security officers, wheelchair attendants and baggage handlers, who work for Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines’ subcontractor Aviation Safeguards, are demanding higher wages and social benefits, according to the union.

"While the airlines have been making record profits and the Port Authority has approved billions of dollars to modernize LaGuardia airport, the airport workers who make these profits possible are struggling to survive," the union said in a statement. "Their demands for better treatment are met with illegal repression."

The people, who are expected to take part in the strike represent a small group of the two airports’ employees. About 37,000 people are employed at John F. Kennedy Airport and 11,000 at LaGuardia, according to data on their official websites.
