WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A New York court hearing on the case of Russian national Evgeny Buryakov, who was indicted for allegedly gathering information for Russia's intelligence service in February, is rescheduled for July 29, Russia’s Consulate General in New York told Sputnik on Wednesday.

“The hearing is rescheduled for July 29. The parties asked for additional time to get acquainted with the case materials,” the Consulate said.

In January 2015, Buryakov was arrested in New York on accusations of gathering intelligence and recruiting agents for Moscow's covert overseas operations. On February 11, Buryakov pleaded not guilty.

Two other Russian nationals, Igor Sporyshev and Victor Podobny, were also charged in the case, but remained free as they no longer reside in the United States.

In January, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich accused Washington of detaining Russian citizens without evidence and said the “anti-Russian campaign” would “undermine” relations between the two countries.

Buryakov may face between 10 and 20 years in prison.
