A criminal court in Cairo has postponed the trial of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on multiple charges, including spying for Qatar, till August 2, local media reported Wednesday citing judicial sources.

Egyptian Court Confirms Ex-President Morsi’s Death Sentence
CAIRO (Sputnik) — Morsi and ten associates are accused of leaking classified documents to Qatari intelligence in order to undermine so-called Egyptian unity.

Hearings were postponed due to Morsi’s health problems, including low blood-sugar, Al Ahram news portal reported, citing a representative of the prosecution. The rest of Morsi’s medical records are reportedly satisfactory but a doctor recommended he not be present in court, the source said.

In June, Morsi was given a life sentence on charges of spying for foreign intelligence. He was also sentenced to death over a mass jailbreak incidents in 2011 during political demonstrations that contributed to the resignation of then-president Hosni Mubarak. Morsi has the right to appeal the verdict within 60 days.

Morsi's numerous court hearings have been repeatedly postponed. The latest was scheduled for July 21.

Morsi stated that he did not recognize the court's jurisdiction.

Morsi, now 63, won the presidential election in Egypt in 2012 to become the first democratically elected president of the country. The following year, he was ousted by the Egyptian military following large anti-government protests.
