ATHENS (Sputnik) — The lawmakers should not fight for the seats in parliament, but for the principles, values and policies that serve the people and the nation, Lafazanis said.
"Greece has no future as a blackmailed Eurozone’s colony. Greece should be a proud, independent and progressive country which, despite countless difficulties and no guardianship, struggles with poverty, unemployment and austerity to achieve debt relief, dignity and economic recovery," Lafazanis said in a statement obtained by RIA Novosti.
Last week, the Eurogroup reached an agreement on a new bailout for Greece, with $95-billion aid package to be given to the country over the next three years in exchange for economic reforms and additional austerity measures. The program has been approved by the Greek government.
Before the agreement on a new bailout deal war reached, Lafazanis suggested the preparation of an alternative plan, in case the country gets blackmailed by its lenders. He has long spoken against continued Greek membership in the Eurozone, deeming the European Union a "totalitarian" bloc.
On late Wednesday, Greece’s parliament is due to vote on the second bill of reforms necessary to secure the long-awaited third bailout package. The final Greece-EU agreement will be signed after the sides agree upon technical details.
