Explosion at German Ammunition Disposal Factory Leaves 4 Injured
16:52 GMT 23.07.2015 (Updated: 16:58 GMT 23.07.2015) A total of four people were injured on Thursday as a result of two blasts at the Nammo Buck factory for ammunition disposal in northeastern Germany's Uckermark district, the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported.
BERLIN (Sputnik) — A 33-year-old worker sustained severe injuries and was flown to a hospital in Berlin.
"Another employee of the plant and two members of the volunteer fire department were injured," the paper quoted a local police officer as saying.
The management of the factory stated that both explosions took place during a series of experimental orders for ammunition disposal, without specifying details, according to the newspaper.
Nammo Buck factory has been dismantling and recycling large amounts of former Soviet and East German arms since 1999.
The factory is currently processing ammunition from NATO member states.
