PARIS (Sputnik) — Hollande discussed in a phone call with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani the recent nuclear agreement in Vienna and prospects of boosting cooperation between the two countries after the deal.
"Hollande stressed that he wanted Iran to make a positive contribution to solving crises in the Middle East," the statement said.
The sides agreed to boost bilateral cooperation and deliberated the implementation of the July 14 deal between Iran and six major powers, including France, Britain, China, Russia, the United States and Germany.
A number of high-ranking international officials noted the contribution that the JCPOA would make in rebuilding the conflict-ridden Middle East, following the signing of the landmark deal.
Iran’s anticipated diplomatic opening provided by the nuclear accord gave way to the first high-level Western delegation visit to the Islamic Republic last week, headed by German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel.
EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is scheduled to visit Iran next week, followed by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
