Slovenia should consider joining Turkish Stream gas pipeline, since the country could have a significant role in the project, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Turkish Stream project involves the construction of the gas pipeline with the capacity transferring some 63 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia to Turkey via the Black Sea. Several gas hubs will be created on the Turkish-Greek border, and EU countries should use their own transport capacity for further shipping the gas in their territories.

"Slovenia could play a major role in this [Turkish Stream] project, because we are willing to supply gas to Turkey, where a series of large gas storage facilities could be built on the border with Greece and from there gas could be distributed throughout Europe," Medvedev said in an interview with Slovenian radio and television company RTV Slovenija on the eve of his visit to Slovenia July 26-27.

"Several countries have shown interest in this project, including Hungary and Serbia. So I would recommend your leaders take a close look at this project," Medvedev said.
