"That’s a much fairer way forward," McConnell was quoted by the Washington-based The Hill daily unveiling a vote on the so-called ObamaCare legislation alongside a vote to reauthorize the Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank.
McConnell announced his intention to file a cloture motion to end a filibuster for the two votes, which the outlet said will likely take place Sunday, to go forward.
The 81-year-old Ex-Im Bank, established to provide credit to foreign companies to incentivize trade with US companies, expired on July 1, 2015.
Republicans in the US Congress have so far blocked Ex-Im Bank’s reauthorization, which the White House argues would put US businesses at a disadvantage to foreign, mainly Chinese, rivals. Conservative lawmakers oppose the bank’s renewal on grounds that it distorts the free market and disproportionately benefits a handful of large US companies.
US President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010. Democratic and Republican estimations of how many times US Congress has voted on ObamaCare range from 56 to 67 discrete votes, including eight votes for a full repeal, in the act’s brief five-year history.
The US Supreme Court upheld subsidies under ObamaCare challenged by its opponents in a 6-to-3 vote in late June.
At present, two US government programs implemented through ObamaCare, Medicare and Medicaid, provide insurance to 123 million US citizens, according to the White House.
