Out of the blue, three rather dirty pigs disturbed the peace in a supermarket in the French city of Agen; they were released by irate local farmers who were protesting against a government policy amid an agricultural crisis.
French farmers have been complaining that the purchase prices of their products are so low that they cannot meet their expenses.
The crisis cropped up because of falling demand for French farmers' produce in China, changing dietary habits and the effects of Russia's food embargo — a countermeasure Moscow implemented in response to Western sanctions. French farmers have already lost five billion euros due to the sanctions war.
Protesters have blocked roads and prevented tourists from reaching Mont St-Michel, one of France's most popular tourist destinations. They have also cordoned off the entrances to the city of Lyon.
The government has decided to allocate an emergency aid package of 600 million euros to support the farmers, but they consider this measure insufficient and have demanded an end to the tug-of-war with Russia and that the EU negotiate lifting the embargo.
