MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Monsoon floods have claimed the lives of 46 and affected over half a million people across Pakistan, local media reported Saturday citing officials.
National Disaster Management Authority spokesman Ahmed Kamal told other local media that 19 people were killed in flooding overnight. He added that 300,000 people were affected in Chitral and over 230,000 in Punjab, the country’s eastern province.
Floods in the southwestern province of Balochistan have killed at least 20 since Sunday.
Heavy flooding triggered by rains are common in the summer monsoon season.
Weather reports predict the latest bout will continue for the next two days.
In 2014, northern India and Pakistan floods claimed the lives of 440 people and over 60,000 were evacuated.
