STRELNA (Sputnik) — Russia will take all necessary steps to make sure the World Cup-2018 becomes the amazing sports event, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday during his meeting with FIFA head Joseph Blatter.
“Mr. President, as I promised, we will do everything we can so that athletes, fans not only in our country, but from the whole would, those who will attend, would feel like home. And to make those who will watch TV feel like they are also present at the great international sports event,” Putin said.
The Russian president stressed that he was happy to keep the FIFA delegation updated on the preparations held by Russia to host the major football event in 2018.
He added that creating decent conditions for teams to “fully concentrate on the game and show high quality football” is “fundamentally important.”
“And, of course, we are doing everything to ensure the safety and maximum comfort for the fans,” the Russian head of state emphasized.
The world's biggest football championship will take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018 in 11 Russian cities, including Moscow, Ekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, and Volgograd.
