MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The shooting in the Gurdaspur and Dinanagar districts left one person dead and nine injured, including two police officers, the India Today channel said. The news service said it was suspected to be an act of terrorism.

A shootout between police and the gunmen was still underway at the time of the reporting.
Punjab borders in the north on India’s turbulent Jammu and Kashmir state, a Muslim-majority province with a strong separatist movement and increasing Islamist sentiment.
