WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The mysterious circumstances surrounding the arrest and death of activist Sandra Bland will be investigated by the Waller County District Attorney’s Office, according to local media reports.
On July 10, 2015, Bland was pulled over by a Texas state trooper for failing to signal while changing lanes with her vehicle. The trooper arrested the 28-year-old activist after she allegedly engaged in an altercation with him.
Bland was detained in jail, but was found hanged in her cell three days later. The authorities stated Bland committed suicide, but Bland’s family has demanded an investigation into her death.
Local media said the committee investigated Bland’s arrest and death will be made up of former prosecutors and defense attorneys who will review every piece of evidence.
Toxicology reports, local media added, have identified marijuana present in Bland’s system.
