WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US presidential candidate and Senator Ted Cruz is investing more resources and adding staff in key states to keep his campaign alive.
“Cruz… announced the hire of Jake Dagel as Iowa senior field director and Steven Wright as South Carolina low country field director,” the Cruz campaign announced in a press release on Tuesday.
Dagel and Wright, the release explained, have been hired as part of the strategy “to support and continue building a strong, grassroots coalition in the early caucus and primary states.”
However, neither activist has had any experience in any national-level political campaign before, according to the resumes released by the Cruz campaign.
Wright has been an activist for many conservative political campaigns in South Carolina, it said.
The Iowa caucuses are gatherings on the same day of dozens of political activists to choose the favored candidate of their party. The archaic political ritual, which dates back to the 1840s, is closely watched because it is the first real test of voter opinion in the two main US political parties in every presidential campaign.
The Iowa caucuses is scheduled for February 1, 2016, and the South Carolina primary for February 20, 2016.
The South Carolina primary is the first full primary election in each presidential election cycle to be held anywhere in the US South, and is seen as a crucial indicator of voters’ choices in the region.
