ANKARA (Sputnik) — Terrorist attacks in Turkey in the wake of the Suruc suicide bombing have killed 41 people, including 11 members of the police and military, the country's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Wednesday.

"Three terrorist organizations [Islamic State, Kurdistan Workers' Party and Turkish People's Liberation Front] began simultaneous attacks against Turkey. Since the terror attack in Suruc, 657 terrorist acts have been recorded in the country, killing 41 citizens, including 11 from our police and military," Davutoglu said at a parliamentary meeting.

The security situation in Turkey deteriorated following a suicide bombing in the Turkish border city of Suruc on July 20. The attack killed at least 32 people, most of them Kurds. The Islamic State militant group was implicated in the attack.

Two days later, two police officers were murdered in the southern Turkish city of Ceylanpinar. The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for the assassinations, saying the policemen allegedly backed the IS.

Islamic State is a jihadist militant group, notorious for its numerous human rights atrocities, occupying large territories in Iraq and Syria.

The PKK is a Kurdish insurgent group originated back in the late 1970s to establish self-determination for the Kurdish community. The faction is considered a terrorist organization by Turkish authorities.

On Friday, Turkish Armed Forces launched a military campaign against IS and the PKK.
